Welcome to the Coral Gables Police Ski Charities Team web site!
Since 2000, members of the Coral Gables Police Ski Charities Team have competed in police winter skiing events around the USA. In the beginning members competed annually in the International Police Winter Games at great ski resorts in the Lake Tahoe area. Since 2002, the team has competed in the North American Police Ski Championships (NAPSC). NAPSC is dedicated to supporting the winter ski programs of Special Olympics and since the inceptions of NAPSC; they have donated over $700,000.00 for the Special Olympic athletes.
In late 2007, Coral Gables Police Ski Charities, Inc. was formed as a 501 C-3 charitable organization in order to raise money and help those in need. In 2007, the team donated $10,000.00 to NAPSC and was awarded the NAPSC donation award. In 2008, the team was again awarded the top prize for fundraising by NAPSC with a donation of $10,001.00 earmarked for Special Olympics. In March of 2009, the team made its largest donation to date of $11,000.00 to NAPSC, with the money earmarked again for Special Olympics.
In 2010, the team was able to make another $10,000.00 donation to NAPSC and this could not be done without the tremendous help of our sponsors. This money was donated in the memory of our late friend and special team member Jim aka “Dennis Hopper” Ingram who died while attending the event.
In 2011, the team donated another $10,000.00 to NAPSC bringing our total donations to well over $50,000.00 to NAPSC. The 2011 donation was made in memory of Los Angeles Police Detective Rick Conrado, who tragically died while training for the ski races. 2011 also marked the 5th year that our team was the leading fundraiser for NAPSC and this brought their total donations to Special Olympics over the past 21 years to well over $700,000.00.
Coral Gables Police Charities, Inc. continues to support the Police Officer Assistance Trust (POAT) and also served as a proud sponsor of the 2010 Law Enforcement Officers Foundation (LEO) annual awards black tie gala. These organizations support fellow law enforcement officers in need.
Coral Gables Police Ski Charities, Inc. always assists local charities, and school safety patrol programs.
The Coral Gables Police Ski Team will once again be competing at the North American Ski Championships in Copper Mountain, Colorado beginning February 25, 2012 through March 3, 2012.
